1. Overview & contact
DeutschLearner (https://deutschlearner.com) is designed so you can study German grammar, vocabulary, readings and conversations without creating an account or sharing personal text. For any privacy questions or data deletion requests, contact contact@deutschlearner.com.
2. Study progress & optional cloud accounts
By default, your exercise history, streaks and interface preferences (such as dark mode and audio settings) are stored locally in your browser under localStorage (deutsch-drop-v1). You can clear this local data at any time using the Reset progress button in the app sidebar.
If you choose to sign in with an optional account (via Google Sign-In or email and password powered by Google Firebase Authentication), your email address, verification status and encrypted study progress are stored in Google Cloud Firestore so your progress stays in sync across devices. We never sell or share your email address with third parties.
3. Analytics & Consent Mode v2
We use Google Analytics 4 with Google Consent Mode v2 and lightweight session telemetry to understand which grammar topics, readings and practice modes are useful:
- Before you choose: Analytics runs in anonymous, cookieless mode (
analytics_storage: 'denied'). No_gacookies are stored on your device, and no typed exercise answers, email addresses or account IDs are ever included in analytics events. - When you allow analytics: First-party
_gacookies are enabled to help measure return visits across sessions. - When you decline analytics (or send Global Privacy Control
Sec-GPC: 1): Analytics measurement and cookies are turned off completely.
4. Advertising & Google AdSense disclosures
To keep DeutschLearner free for learners, we may display advertisements served by Google AdSense and certified partners on reference and study pages:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites on the internet.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to DeutschLearner and/or other sites on the internet.
- Unless you grant consent, advertising storage and personalization remain disabled by default (
ad_storage: 'denied',ad_user_data: 'denied',ad_personalization: 'denied'). - You may opt out of personalized advertising at any time by visiting Google Ads Settings or www.aboutads.info/choices.

5. Your privacy rights (EEA, UK, Switzerland & California)
Depending on your location, you have the right to access, export, rectify or erase your personal data, and to withdraw consent for analytics or personalized advertising at any time. You can reset your study progress directly inside the app, change your cookie preference via the Privacy & analytics control in the footer, or email contact@deutschlearner.com to request account deletion.
