# Reading authorship and reuse

The original B1/B2 readings and their comprehension questions were written for DeutschLearner. They are fictional learning material, not reports about actual companies, studies, municipal policies or events. No outside reading passages were copied for this expansion.

## Original passages

- B1: A first week at work; Making time for a course; A second life for a lamp; When the weekend plan changes.
- B2: A street redesigned—for a trial; Working flexibly, together; A headline is not the whole story; A garden needs more than enthusiasm.

These eight passages, their comprehension questions and their original English explanations are shared as **CC BY-SA 4.0**, attributed to **DeutschLearner**. You may reuse and adapt them under that licence, keeping attribution, a licence link and an indication of changes: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/ . This content licence does not declare a new licence for the application code or unrelated assets.

Each passage has five paragraphs, fewer than 200 German words and two questions. B1 combines events, explanations and everyday decisions. B2 asks readers to distinguish claims from evidence, follow conditional support and infer a qualified position. The level labels are editorial practice stages; they are not exam texts or a certified placement test.

## Word help

New word help is adapted from German dictionary entries by **Wiktionary contributors**, via **Kaikki / Wiktextract**, with context-specific corrections, additional forms and original glosses by DeutschLearner. It is shared under CC BY-SA 4.0. See https://kaikki.org/dictionary/German/ and https://en.wiktionary.org/ for the dictionary and entry histories. The reviewed snapshot is `content/practice-word-help.json`; it preserves dictionary sense identifiers where a dictionary suggestion was used, with contextual meanings edited for these texts. It also contains noun articles, plural forms and reviewed nominalized adjectives.

Rebuild the static helper with `python scripts/build-practice-word-help.py`. Existing word meanings are preserved. Proper names are marked as names; sentence-initial verbs and adverbs retain ordinary word help.
